The Great Pyramid of Khufu
Constructed around 2560 BCE, the Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest of the three pyramids in the Giza Necropolis. Originally built at 14.6 meters, the structure has been eroded over the centuries. However, it is an architectural marvel that continues to captivate visitors.
The Pyramid of Khafre
Built for Pharaoh Khafre, this pyramid is slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid of Khufu, standing at 136.4 meters. It retains some of its original casing stones at the apex, giving off the illusion of a shimmering top. It is rumored that there were more casing stones on its surface, but they have eroded over the decades.
The Pyramid of Menkaure
Standing at around 65.5 meters, the Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three Great Pyramids. The upper portion is covered with granite casing stones, most of which are intact in the present day. It is one of the most well-preserved tombs in the Giza Necropolis.
The Great Sphinx

Plan your visit
Great Pyramid entrance
This is one of the main entrances to the Pyramids of Giza, situated to the north of the Pyramid of Khufu. You can walk to this entrance from Al Haram Road near the Marriot Mena House Hotel. This entrance is usually less busy.
The Great Sphinx entrance
The second entrance is situated to the east of the Giza Plateau, in front of the Great Sphinx. There are numerous shops and restaurants near this entrance. If you want to arrive for the Light and Sound Show in the evening, you can directly enter through this gate.
- The Light and Sound Show starts at 7 pm during the winter months (October to March) and 7:30 pm during the summer months (April to September).
- The Pyramids of Giza are open during Ramadan, generally until 8:30 pm. Their timings may differ during this period.
There are restrooms situated throughout the Giza Necropolis complex for your convenience.
There are no cafes or restaurants inside the Pyramid complex. However, you can grab a bite from any of the local cafes and restaurants situated right outside the Giza complex.
You can purchase postcards, scarves, and other trinkets from the shops outside the Giza Necropolis.
The Pyramids of Giza are partly accessible to visitors in wheelchairs. While they can stroll up to the entrance of the Great Pyramids, they cannot explore the excavation sites or go inside the chambers.
You can bring your pets to the Giza Necropolis, however, you have to keep a close eye on them, so that they do not stray too far away or enter the inner chambers of the Pyramids.
