An Exhilarating Cable Car Ride
Meet your expert volcanologist guide at the visitor center in Rifugio Sapienza, south of Etna to begin an amazing trek. Board the cable car from Rifugio Sapienza and reach an altitude of 2,500m in just 15 minutes. On the ride up, your guide will help you discover the mountain’s rich history and see the local flora and fauna. Click pictures and enjoy the view of the lava landscape with old craters, which is beautiful from here.
Begin Your Ascent On Foot
Once off the cable car, start your exciting 2-hour guided summit hike to 3000m above sea level. Do not be intimidated by the walking, as it is an easy hike. See some older craters and walk through impressive lava tubes as you follow the winding track to the crater areas. Climb towards the volcanic crater created by the 2001 explosion, the largest in this millennium. Enjoy the lunar landscape it left in its wake. Engulfed by the clouds and swirling gasses emitted from the vents of this active volcano, walk up to the viewpoint in the Valle del Bove. Sitting at 2,750m above sea level, this crater was made by an eruption 64,000 years ago!
Photo-Ops with Stunning Natural Formations
See the picturesque coastal towns of Taormina and Syracuse from high up on the mountain. Marvel at the rock formations that date back thousands of years and continue walking through the lava fields to the last stop, a crater depression called the Cisternazza. After you have clicked pictures and made memories to take home, trek back to the cable car station to head to your starting point.
