Walk around Siena, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, with an expert English-speaking guide. Learn about its fascinating medieval history and find Gothic architecture in unique places as you stroll the city. Starting in the heart of the city, Piazza del Campo, you will discover the tradition of the famous Palio, a horse race that takes place twice a year since the Middle Ages. Your guide will regale stories about the mysterious "bottini", an underground medieval aqueduct excavated in the sandstone of the Fonte Gaia (fountain).
As you tour the ancient street Banchi di Sopra, you'll learn about some of the most important Sienese families. These families have majestic palaces like Palazzo Tolomei, one of the oldest private buildings in Siena, and Palazzo Salimbeni, the oldest public bank of Europe. Take in the grandeur of Basilica of San Domenico and the Bapitry nearing the end of your tour. You'll hear stories about the religious importance of these sites. Finally, admire the works of Donatello, Michelangelo and Bernini in the magnificent Siena Cathedral, one of the finest Italian Gothic churches.
Important Information
- Please note that from 30 Dec 2021, it is mandatory for every guest to have an FFP2 mask for the entrance to any museum in Italy. Without this mask, you will not be able to participate in the tour.
- It is mandatory to wear clothing that covers the shoulders and legs to enter the Cathedral.
- The tour is wheelchair accessible.
