Villa Necchi Campiglio
Spend half a day In the footsteps of the Necchi sisters, on this audio-guided tour around Milan's fashion district. The stops in this tour include the cafeteria where they used to enjoy their aperitif, their favorite clothing retailers, the original flower shop that is still open, stores that sell staff uniforms, and, last but not least, the renowned hatmaker Gallia e Peter and his collection. Currently secluded in the heart of a quiet neighborhood in the center of Milan, Villa Necchi Campiglio was designed in the early 1930s by architect Piero Portalippi, at the behest of his sisters Medda and Gigina Mecchi, and Gigina's husband Angelo Campiglio.
The Inner Workings of Villa Necchi Campiglio
Discover the personal life and secrets of the Campiglio family for the next hour. First-time openings of rooms, doors, and flaps show the family of Necchi and Campiglio activities, preferences, and daily routines. A brief walk in the area of Villa Necchi Campiglio will reveal Milan's dramatic architectural history. While on tour, notice the cultured, bourgeoisie notes spread across the house that was created in step with the times. In addition to the villa, the garden housed the janitor's house with a concierge, a greenhouse, a garage, a tennis court, and a swimming pool. This swimming pool was the first privately owned one in all of Milan. There is a mezzanine floor present, which serves as a reception area, while the second floor is reserved for the family's private rooms. Spot the spaces where innovation was translated into the comfort and efficiency of elevators, dumbwaiters, interior intercoms, sliding security doors, and walled-in vaults. All these features display luxury and modernity, which makes this villa an iconic residence of this era.
There are three important donations at are of notable significance today: Claudia Gian Ferrari's collection of early 20th-century works of art, Alighiero and Emilietta de' Micheli's collection of 18th-century paintings and decorative arts, and from 2017, the Guido Sforni (1935-1975) collection, consisting of 21 drawings on paper by 20th-century artists. Today, the Villa is accessible to all, while donations have been made to the FAI in 2001, making this a must-visit place to frequent.
Milan Duomo Rooftop
Enjoy access to the vast rooftop of the Milan Duomo with this ticket. Use the convenient elevator that will take you to the terrace directly. Once you're there, you'll see the stunning view of the city and a bird's eye perspective of the Italian Gothic cathedral itself.
While the structure broke ground in 1386, its construction only finished in 1965, taking around 6 centuries to complete. Don't forget to take out your smartphones and capture this unique perspective of the city and the largest church in Italy!
