Getting started

Begin your astronomic tour with departure from either the South area or the North area of Tenerife, depending on your chosen option. You travel in transportation for small groups, heading up to the Teide Observatory at about 2,390–2,400 meters above sea level. On arrival, you enter the Teide Observatory using your reservation confirmation and prepare to meet your Starlight guide.

Teide Observatory

Teide Observatory is where modern astrophysics in the Canary Islands began. Set up in Izaña in the early 1960s, its first professional telescope arrived in 1964, followed by its first solar telescope in 1969. Today, the Observatory is dedicated largely to studying the Sun and houses some of Europe's leading solar telescopes.

What to bring

ID and confirmation: Bring your ID or passport and your reservation confirmation for check-in. Ensure children carry a passport or ID card to confirm they meet the age requirement.

Warm clothing: Wear very warm layers, hats, and gloves since night temperatures can drop to -5°C in winter.

Proper attire: Wear closed shoes and long pants and sleeves, as open footwear, shorts, and short sleeves are not allowed.

Sun protection: Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for daytime sun exposure at high altitude.

Water and drinks: Bring enough water or juice to stay hydrated during the tour.

What’s not allowed

Minimum age: Children under 8 years old are not allowed on this tour.

Pets: Pets are not permitted, except certified guide or therapy dogs.

Inadequate clothing: Guests without the required closed shoes and long clothing will not be allowed to join.

Food during activity: Eating is only allowed during the designated snack break, not during the activity itself.

Environmental rules: You must not litter, light fires, camp, or take rocks, plants, or animals.

Noise levels: You must avoid making loud noises during the experience.

Medical services: Medical assistance is not available within the Observatory facilities.

Accessibility

Mobility limitations: The tour is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or poor general health.

High altitude: The Observatory sits at about 2,390 to 2,400m, where oxygen levels are reduced.

Guide language: You can choose your preferred tour guide language during the final stage of the booking process, subject to availability.

Health note: The closest hospital is about 1.5 hours from the Observatory.

Altitude caution: The reduced oxygen at high altitude may affect guests with health conditions.
