    After arriving in Kyoto, I wanted to do something local and different, so I booked the sumo show. It turned out to be an awesome way to learn about Japan’s national sport without needing any Japanese skills—the MC was great and explained everything in English. Watching the rituals before the matches really made it feel special, and the actual bouts were exciting. I didn’t get picked for the ring challenge, but it looked like so much fun for those who did. Everyone was warm and welcoming, and the included drink was a nice touch. Ending the event with a photo alongside a sumo wrestler made the whole thing really memorable. Would definitely recommend for couples or solo travelers looking for something uniquely Japanese.

    Took my kids and some family friends to the sumo experience and we all had a blast. The wrestlers gave us a real taste of Japanese culture, showing the ancient rituals before each demonstration. The English-speaking MC made sure everyone could follow what was happening, throwing in fun facts and answering questions as we watched. My kids are still laughing about the audience challenge—they loved watching people try to push the sumo over! Afterward, we got a group photo with one of the wrestlers, which made for a perfect souvenir. Staff were always on hand and super friendly. Great way to spend a morning in Kyoto with family.

    Definitely a cool mix of learning and laughs. The host made the cultural parts easy to get and got us all yelling together ("Yoisho!" was a blast). The sumo guys are massive, and it's wild to hear the floor shake with their moves. They ran through the basics and invited folks from the crowd to give it a shot, which cracked us up. Just so you know, it's more of a staged event—bouts are over quick, and the seats are tough on your backside, plus it isn't exactly cheap. Still, if you've never seen sumo, this is a fun intro.
