Took my mom on this fjord cruise and wow, the scenery was EPIC! We lucked out with the weather—blue skies all day. The commentary was pretty chill, not overbearing, and the guide cracked a few jokes that actually made us laugh. I loved how close they took us to the waterfalls (I literally stuck my hand out and got soaked, lol). Only thing—bring a jacket. It got PRETTY cold on deck even in August. Would 100% do it again with friends.

Went solo, ended up chatting with a couple from Austria and had the best time. The boat itself is retro, kinda charming, and super clean. Staff were friendly but not over-the-top, which I prefer. My only gripe: the seats on top deck go FAST so if ur not early, you’re stuck inside (which is warm but the windows fog up). Views outside are SPECTACULAR. Worth it even if u gotta stand.

The whole cruise felt like being in a postcard. My kids even stopped bickering for once, so that’s saying something! Crew handed out cups so we could taste the waterfall water (kinda quirky, tasted fresh!). A bit crowded at the start but everyone spread out after 20 min. Bring snacks, there’s nothing to buy except coffee and some basic cookies.

This was soooo beautiful. I’ve never been on a fjord before and didn’t really know what to expect but wow. The air felt cleaner, water was like glass, and the mountains looked fake (in a good way). Sat next to an old couple who’ve done this trip 5 times—totally get why. If you can, snag a seat OUTSIDE, inside gets stuffy.

We did the cruise as a family with two teens. Both said it was the highlight of the trip (miracle). It was a little chilly and there’s not much shelter if it rains, so bring layers. The staff were helpful and let us know when to go outside for the best photos. Only downside: bathroom line was long. Otherwise, amazing!

What to bring

The boat departs from Geiranger at 10:15am and arrives in Hellesylt at 11:15am. The return journey leaves Hellesylt at 12:25pm and arrives back in Geiranger at about 1:25pm.

The tour includes a 1-hour stop in Hellesylt to explore the village and its waterfall.
