    • Duomo Florence: The magnificent Duomo Florence is undoubtedly the most famous landmark in the city. The 3rd largest cathedral in the world is instantly identifiable with its elaborate pink, green, and white tiles, and of course, the magnificent Dome that towers over the city.
    • Palazzo Vecchio: What once served as the Florence government's official seat as well as the Medici family's residence, today is one of the busiest attractions in Florence. Step inside to discover luxury and grandeur like never before in its furnishings, rooms, and more with Palazzo Vecchio tickets.
    • Uffizi Gallery: Perhaps one of the most famous museums not just in Italy but the world, the Uffizi Gallery draws viewers is not just for its extensive Renaissance art collections, but for its awe-inspiring architecture as well. It once served as the Medici family's office and today hosts art by Michelangelo, Raphael, Caravaggio, and more.
    • Giotto's Tower: Located right next to the Florence Duomo is the Bell Tower, designed with the same pattern of tiling as the Santa Maria Cathedral. Standing tall at about 85 meters, you can climb up its 414 steps to enjoy sweeping views of the city.
    • Basilica of Santa Croce: Dating back to the 13th century, this basilica is the final resting place of famous Florentines such as Galileo, Dante, Machiavelli, and Michelangelo. Keep an eye out for the beautiful frescoes and stained glass windows.
  • While it's not completely clear which the oldest building in Italy is, historians consider San Miniato al Monte to take this title. Construction is said to have begun back in the year 1013 under Bishop Alibrando and Henry II. A lot of the architecture and interiors we see today date back to the 12-13th centuries. Its stunning Romanesque design makes it one of the most picturesque basilicas in Italy.
  • The tower of Palazzo Vecchio stands at 95 meter height, making it the tallest in the city. Called Tower of Arnolfo as a tribute to the landmark's chief architect Arnolfo di Cambio. Visitors can climb up to the top of the tower and soak in scenic views of Florence. Entry to the tower lies from within the Palazzo Vecchio.
  • While the exact numbers are unknown, the Florence Duomo and Uffizi Gallery are considered to be the busiest landmarks in the city. In 2019, the Uffizi Gallery is said to have been visited by over 2 million visitors, while the Duomo received a whopping footfall of about 4.5 million visitors.
  • The 5 landmarks you cannot miss out while in Florence are:
    • Duomo Florence and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore
    • Baptistery of St. John
    • Uffizi Palace and Gallery
    • San Lorenzo and Michelangelo's Medici Tombs
    • Basilica of Santa Croce
  • Apart from the famous landmarks, here are some gems that are often overlooked in Florence:
    • Villa Demidoff: A true hidden landmark in Florence, this beautiful villa and its serene gardens were built under the Grand Duke of Tuscany. The highlight here is the Colosso dell’Appennino statue from the 16th century.
    • Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy: Dating back to the year 1221, this unusual place was where the first modern perfume was created for Catherine de Medici. It holds about 800 ancient recipes for medicines and perfumes.
    • Torrigiani Garden: One of the largest private gardens in Europe, the Torrigiani Gardens are a must-visit. Spread across 17 acres, they feature impeccably-maintained flora reminiscent of a classic English garden.
    • La Specola: Part of the Museum of Natural History, La Specola holds the largest collection of wax anatomical figures. Ranging from extinct species to animals and humans, La Specola receives surprisingly low footfall despite its fascinating exhibits.
    • Cimitero delle Porte Sante: Soak in breathtaking views of Florence from a cemetery! Dating back to the 1800s, this cemetery is not just the resting space for Florentines, but it also houses several beautiful sculptures and artwork, making it worth a visit.
  • The various landmarks you can visit for free on certain days are:
    • Uffizi Gallery - first Sunday of the month
    • Accademia Gallery - first Sunday of the month
    • Palazzo Pitti - first Sunday of the month
    • Natural History Museum - first Sunday of the month
  • Here's what you can do for free in Florence:
    • Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore: While you need a ticket to visit the Duomo, the Piazza and the Cathedral are free to enter. Photograph the stunning tile work, admire the cathedral's interiors and more here.
    • San Lorenzo and Mercato Centrale: From leather jackets and bags to fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese and meals, these marketplaces are ideal for anyone looking to experience life as a local.
    • Piazza della Signoria: This square is located in the heart of the city and is a complete open-air museum. Admire all the statues here created by Michelangelo, Cellini, Bandinelli, and more.
    • San Miniato al Monte: This classic Romanesque landmark is both a church as well as a monastery. Located above Piazzale Michelangelo, one can see the inner workings of a functioning monastery and take in the view of Florence from the top.
  • Florence's most-visited tourist attractions are located around the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, right in the heart of the city. All the following attractions are within a 2 km radius by walk.
    • Piazza della Signoria - 400 m
    • Uffizi Gallery - 500 m
    • Bargello National Museum - 500 m
    • Palazzo Vecchio - 500 m
    • Accademia Gallery - 550 m
    • Basilica of Santa Maria Novella - 550 m
    • Basilica of Santa Croce - 800 m
    • Palazzo Pitti - 1.1 km
    • Piazza Michelangelo - 1.9 km
    • Boboli Gardens - 2.1 km
  • Since most of the popular tourist attractions in Florence are located close to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the best way to cover them all is to simply walk around from Point A to B and C. You can easily get from one end of the city to another in less than 40 minutes. The other option is boarding an ATAF bus and visiting the landmark of your choice. Tickets for a one-way trip are only €1.50. Opting for a car or taxi is impractical since they are not allowed in the city center and Florence's narrow, one-way streets make it difficult to drive through.

Vakker basilika, bratt stigning opp, men utsikten over Vasaris siste dom og utsikten utenfor over Firenze er verdt hvert skritt.
