A vivid exploration of modern Britain and the widening gap between the older and younger generations, Snowflake is a wonderful masterpiece by Olivier Award-winning writer Mike Bartlett!
Why You Should Snowflake
Why You Should Snowflake
Snowflake does not limit itself to a single dimension. It delves into the relationship between a father and his daughter, the shifting political scenario, generational conflict, extending all the way up to the hotly debated Brexit. The delicately balanced perspectives and emotional depth of the story are perfectly captured by renowned producer Clare Lizzimore. Mike Bartlett has worked on several critically acclaimed and award-winning plays, TV series, and screenplays before. He is best known for Doctor Foster, a 2015 series that won the New Drama award from National Television Awards. Bartlett did not stop there; he went on to win the Best Writer from the Broadcast Press Guild Awards. Snowflake serves as a testament to the writer’s immense capacity to view the world from an array of perspectives.
The Story
Andy hopes to welcome back his estranged daughter Maya at the Oxfordshire village hall on Christmas Eve. Maya had walked out on him after she lost her mother, and Andy has been broken ever since. We learn about his woeful tale in the monologues of the first part, where he describes himself as ‘a man stuck in the past’ to Terry and June. When a young woman named Natalie enters the scene and challenges Andy’s long-held political and social beliefs, the stakes are inevitably raised. Can the gap in the perception of the world by two different generations ever be reconciled in these troubled times? Snowflake brilliantly explores these ideas and attempts to arrive at fitting answers.
