  • Begin your kimono experience just a short walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. After selecting a style that suits you, you’ll be dressed by friendly staff in a full traditional set—complete with obi sash, socks, zori sandals, and a kimono bag.

    What to expect

    Once ready, step out and explore the Arashiyama district at your own pace. Walk through the famous bamboo grove, take in the seasonal beauty of cherry blossoms or autumn leaves, and enjoy peaceful riverside views—all while dressed in classic Japanese attire.

    Choose from three kimono styles: a vibrant modern polyester, a soft-toned antique-style Kyotan, or an elegant silk kimono with traditional woven designs.

    A simple, authentic way to connect with Kyoto’s heritage in one of its most scenic neighborhoods.

  • What's not allowed

    • For safety reasons, pregnant women cannot wear kimono.

    Additional information

    • Make sure the left side wraps over the right side. The other way around is reserved for those who passed away.

    • Wear the knot of the obi (belt) on the back, not the front!

    • Don’t forget to wear an undergarment or the nagajuban before the kimono.

    • Wear white socks when wearing a kimono in Japan. Bare feet is not allowed.

    • Wearing shoes indoors is seen as extremely unhygienic and you'll be expected to take them off when entering the kimono rental shop, temples and some restaurants.

    • Getting ready typically takes 45-70 minutes, depending on the kind of kimono you've chosen.

    • Please ensure your kimono is returned by 6pm to avoid additional charges of 550 JPY per person for every 15 minutes beyond the deadline.

    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the redemption point.
