Tenía muchas ganas de conocer este museo, sobretodo por el Gernika, pero ha sido una sorpresa absoluta. Primero decir que gracias a las indicaciones de la entrada supe que la fachada principal no es para acceder, así que ese es un punto importante. Una vez accedes te acoge la grandiosidad del hall, y en mi caso al comenzar la visita en el 2° Piso descubrí uno de los cuadros que me maravilló, "Un mundo", aunque luego la agradable sorpresa de descubrir varios cuadros de mujeres, creaciones verdaderamente hermosas me encantó. Otra de las salas a tener en cuenta la de los fotoperiodistas como Capa que durante la guerra civil pusieron su vida en riesgo para retratar aquel dolor. En este museo hay mucho para ver y disfrutar durante horas.

Our guide, Gabi, was very warm, welcoming and knowledgeble. She was a delight to listen to (excellent English) as we made our way through the Reina Sofia. She paced the tour perfectly, giving us a nice amount of time to learn about Guernica at the end.

Ingresso semplice, spazio ampio che rendeva agevole la visita nonostante i numerosi visitatori considerato il periodo. Opere meravigliose a cui dedicare il giusto tempo senza sentire la necessità di lasciare spazio agli altri. Super consigliato

The entry was fast and easy. The staff directed me to the temporary exhibit floor. The exhibition was amazing - Aurèlia Muñoz - for me as a weaver and fiber artist. I visited some of my favorites after that. I left fulfilled and content.

The Reina Sofía Museum is one of those rare places where every gallery tells a story, every painting sparks curiosity, and every step leaves a lasting impression. Some places don't just display art—they make you feel it. Visiting the museum with my wife was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. Walking through its remarkable collection of modern and contemporary art was both inspiring and emotional. The highlight, without a doubt, was standing before Picasso's Guernica. Seeing this masterpiece in person is an experience that words can hardly describe—its scale, emotion, and historical significance are simply overwhelming. What made the visit even more special was sharing it together. We wandered through the galleries at our own pace, exchanging thoughts, discovering new artists, and appreciating how art has the power to connect people and create unforgettable memories. If you're in Madrid, don't just visit the Reina Sofía Museum—immerse yourself in it. It's far more than a museum; it's an experience that will stay with you long after you've left.

awesome art and museums. i was suprised that prado museum doesn't let you take photos or videos. i've been in numerous museums in france, italy and spain. and the prado museum is the only that does not allow it. besides this, all three have memorable art.

Arrive at the main entrance of Nouvel Building at the museum to get your tickets validated. A brief security check later, you'll be able to enter the museum and begin your self-guided tour.

Reina Sofia Museum

As Spain’s leading museum for modern and contemporary art, Reina Sofía houses nearly 25,000 works and is renowned for its focus on Spanish artists and pivotal 20th-century movements.

What to bring

Bring a valid photo ID to match the name on your booking if requested at the entrance.

What’s not allowed

Large bags, suitcases, and oversized luggage are not allowed inside the museum for security reasons.

Food and beverages are not permitted inside the exhibition spaces.

Pets are not allowed, except for registered assistance animals.

Flash photography and the use of selfie sticks or tripods are strictly prohibited.

Accessibility

The museum is wheelchair accessible, with ramps and elevators available throughout the building.

You can also loan wheelchairs at the information points at the museum's Sabatini and Nouvel Buildings.

You're free to bring a service animal along, provided you carry all relevant official documentation for verification.

The museum has adapted restrooms across both buildings.

You'll also find accessible parking for adapted vehicles in the museum's loading bay.

Individuals with more than 33% disability enjoy free access to Prado and Thyssen for themselves and one person accompanying them. They must carry an official card or documentation to avail of this benefit.

Additional information

You will access the digital audio guide via an app, so make sure your phone is fully charged.

Minors under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The museum remains closed on Tuesdays.

Free access to the museum is available for individual visitors during the last two hours on all days. However, keep in mind that it can get very crowded during this period.

Due to architectural improvements, the museum's library will remain open between 5pm and 9pm until November 21.

Access to certain parts of the museum may be restricted or closed due to improvements or for assembling new collections.
