After rain all night, we were worried our flight would be cancelled. But luckily the weather improved. Our flight time moved a bit but was dealt with well. Our flight was amazing! Our pilot Rich was excellent. The snow landing was especially good! Highly recommend, one of the best 30 mins of our NZ adventure?

Blessed with blue skies, amazing views of the glacier and couldn't believe how close we were to Mount Cook. Fabulous to see this stunning scenery from another perspective. Our pilot was very informative and friendly. Standing on the glacier was special! Would definitely recommend.

Getting started

This scenic helicopter experience departs from Fox Glacier township. Arrive early to check in, receive a safety briefing from your pilot, and prepare for take-off into the Southern Alps.

What to expect

Aerial views: Enjoy panoramic views of Fox Glacier’s crevasses, waterfalls, rainforest foothills, and towering alpine peaks, including Mount Cook and Mount Tasman.

Snow landing: Touch down on a snowfield atop the glacier for photos and a short stop to soak in the alpine scenery and crisp mountain air.

Expert pilot guidance: Throughout the flight, your pilot provides live commentary, sharing insights into the glacier’s terrain, local geography, and surrounding landscapes.

What to bring

Bring along your warm upper-body clothing (preferably 3-4 layers), leggings or light trousers, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

What's not allowed

Selfie sticks and drones are not allowed on this experience.

Please avoid using iPads for photography during flights as they can obstruct views. Feel free to use phones, cameras, or GoPros instead.

Jeans are not recommended for this experience as they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when wet.

Additional information

Snow landings are subject to weather conditions and are at the pilot’s discretion.

Infants under 3 years weighing less than 15 kg will fly for free, sitting on an adult's lap. Infants under 3 years weighing above 15 kg must be charged at the child fare.
