Walk in the Footsteps of Ancient Civilizations at Empúries
Enter an invisible time portal as you explore the excavations of Empúries. You can visualize the ancient cities of Emporium and Emporiae coming to life before your eyes with the beautiful blue Mediterranean on the Gulf of Roses in the backdrop. Visiting the ruins has been made effortlessly simple due to the walkways and well-placed detailed placards in English and Spanish describing what each area was used for. It will take you around 2 hours to wander through the ruins and discover the rich history at the Archaeology Museum of Catalonia at Empúries where objects uncovered during the excavations are put up in a remarkable display, offering a glimpse into Greek and Roman lifestyle.
Discover the Legacy of Roman and Greek Architecture
As you walk amidst the remnants of the Roman city, you will find the Roman baths, the amphitheater, the forum, impressive mosaic floors of the houses and some of the city’s shops, and can very well imagine the city brimming with life. In the Greek city, you will come across the remains of the defensive walls, a temple, the public square and market and the remains of the ancient port jetty when you walk down to the beach. You will also come across the ancient Greek sculpture of Asclepius, God of medicine . Towards the end, you can also take a dip into the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean.
