Sunrise Picnic & Borobudur Temple
Arrive at Bukit Dagi, a hill within the Borobudur Temple compound to witness the sun rising over the hill. Note the temple’s splendor accentuated by the sun and sit down for a typical Indonesian breakfast surrounded by vegetation. After a satisfying meal, listen to tales of the Hindu-Buddhist temple’s layered past and learn how it was rebuilt after its destruction. Use coconut leaves to create Janur handicrafts before heading to the temple gate. Walk around the 8th-century temple and observe the pyramid-like structure, sculptures, and stupa that give it the status of a World Heritage Site.
Prambanan Temple
Next, move on to another World Heritage Site, the Prambanan Temple. Tour the depths of the temple built during the Sanjaya Dynasty. Examine its mandala patterns with three temples dedicated to Hindu deities. Notice the Hindu style of architecture, gain insights into its intricate carvings, learn of its volcanic past, and hear folklore from the guide.
