Start your Evening Glow Worm Kayak Tour at the Waimarino Adventure Park in Tauranga. Before departure, the guides will provide you with refreshing snacks to maintain your energy levels. These include an assortment of fruit, crackers, dips, and more!
Along the banks of New Zealand’s Wairoa river, the sunset and the surrounding cascading hills create a breathtaking view to kickstart your adventure. From the river, your experienced tour guide will lead you toward the kayaks, which will be used to paddle through the tranquil waters at twilight. The adjoining greenery, the various bird species, and the vast tracts of native bush set the stage for a memorable kayaking experience.
The main event of the tour takes place in the towering canyon crowning the river. This experience is arranged after sundown so that you can view the glowing luminescence of these unique insects clearly in the darkness of the caves. As you kayak inside, you will see thousands of glowworms adorning the canyon ceilings. While you marvel at the bluish glow of the glowworms, the tour guide will impart insights into these fascinating species, their life cycles, and what makes them unique. The 3 hours will fly by you in a jiffy as you watch the star-like creatures overhead and their reflections dance in the water beneath!
