Why Watch The Magic Flute
Why Watch The Magic Flute
In the world of music, there are very few names as acclaimed as that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and one his more idolized works, The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte). This opera is in the form of a singspiel, where there are songs as well as spoken dialogues. Tenor Ben Bliss plays the role of the audacious Tamino with sheer perfection. He showcases his incredible vocal range and singing prowess by mesmerizing audiences with his splendid voice. Soprano Erin Morley plays the empowered Pamina, who seeks to create a path of her own in her life. While such a magnificent opera is quite the task to adapt into an abridged version, Julie Taymor manages to enthrall audiences in this rendition of Die Zauberflöte.
The Story
In The Magic Flute, the Queen of the Night persuades the young and valiant Prince Tamino to rescue her daughter Pamina from captivity under the high priest Sarastro. Instead of rescuing her, he is drawn to the high societal ideals of Sarastro's community and seeks to be a part of it.
The quest first follows Tamino and Pamina separately and then together, as they undergo a series of trials and tribulations that eventually leads to their initiation and their triumph over the vindictive Queen and her army.
Watching these mystical characters coming to life as a part of this opera is an experience that is sure to keep you enthralled to the very last minute
