The Must-Visit Floating Market
If you’re wondering what a floating market is, it is exactly what it sounds like: a market afloat a maze of canals. Experiencing the floating market of Damnoen Saduak is a rare opportunity when in Thailand, a great way to engage with the locals and pick up on their culture and lifestyle.
You will take a long-tail boat and sail along the Damnoen Saduak canals. Notice the local houses lined along the canal and take a peek at their intriguing ways of living. When you arrive at the market, be mesmerized by the stunning array of merchants and local vendors selling their products on their boats.
Indulge in tasting the local food, such as Pad Thai, Mango Sticky Rice, Boat Noodles, and Coconut Ice Cream. Don’t forget to take back home a souvenir of this vivacious floating market.
Damnoen Saduak is not only famous for its floating market, but its exciting elephant village as well. Get down at this elephant village on your way back, and wave at the majestic animals. You may ride an elephant if you like, at your own expense.
A Grand Visit to The Grand Palace
The Grand Palace was once the residence for King Rama I to King Rama V of the Rattankosin Kingdom. Today, this palace is used to welcome the king’s guests and host royal ceremonies. It is also where the remains of high-ranked members and kings were kept before cremation.
But the royal residence is not the only site at The Grand Palace worth noticing. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha (or Wat Phra Kaew) is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand. Located within the grounds of The Grand Palace, this is a site worth visiting.
The Divine Temple of Wat Pho
You have the option to choose between visiting The Grand Palace and the Wat Pho. While The Grand Palace is one of the most visited tourist sites in Bangkok, Wat Pho is considered equally important. It is where history and medical science comes together, and is known among Thais to be “the nation’s first ever public university.”
One of the main reasons people visit Wat Pho is to enter the Temple of the Golden Buddha. Also known as “Wat Traimit”, this is regarded as one of Bangkok’s most visited temples. Apart from The Temple of Golden Buddha, you will also visit the Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram (also known as The Marble Temple), which is known as one of Bangkok’s most beautiful temples to exist today.
