In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Palace of Versailles has enforced several safety measures:
  • To ensure maximum safety, all visitors must wear masks within the venue.
  • A maximum of 500 people will be allowed entry into the castle at any given point of time.
  • Visitors should follow the markings on the ground and maintain a distance of one meter from each other.
  • The smaller venues such as the Petit Trianon, the King's private apartments, and the Opera will be open for guided tours only.
  • Entrances and exits are separate and clearly marked at the Palace of Versailles and on the Trianon Estate.

Versailles Ticket and Tour Options Explained

All visitors are requested to make advance bookings before visiting the Palace of Versailles. While booking, you will be asked to select an entry timing of your convenience from all the available time slots, which will ensure that there is no overcrowding at the gates. All visitors are required to arrive on time and wear masks for the entire duration of their visit. Please note that a COVID-19 help desk has been set up at the South Ministers’ Wing. Visitors can visit the same regarding all COVID-19 related queries.

The Palace
The principal residence of French royalty, the Palace of Versailles was initially a hunting lodge commissioned for King Louis XIII. It was only in 1682 that King Louis XIII’s son King Louis XIV decided to move the political headquarters from Paris to Versailles.
