Why Watch The Merry Widow

The star-studded cast is bound to leave you in fits of laughter, making your night at Westend truly memorable. This operetta, directed by Max Webster (The Lorax), is his ENO debut alongside award-winning Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska. The ENO star Sarah Tynan returns to the stage for her second major appearance of the season playing the lovely widow Hanna. Nathan Gunn costars as Danilo and ENO legend Andrew Shore plays Zeta, giving you a glamorous mix of great personalities to take over London Coliseum. Furthermore, this comic operetta by Franz Lehar features memorable melodies like ‘Vilja Song’ and ‘Merry Widow Waltz’.

The Story

This memorable operetta trails the story of Hanna Glawari, a wealthy widow who decides to get married again. However, the fate of her lands lies in her choice of finding the best suitor. Swarmed by hopeful bachelors, she is overwhelmed and when she finally sets her sights on a lad, he disavows her because of the very fortune that makes her so desirable. Will she find love and will her countrymen's attempt to keep her money in the principality by finding her the right husband go in vain? There’s only one way to find out.
