An immensely important figure in the civil rights movement in America, Nina Simone inspired and impressed the world with her powerful vocals, piano, and arrangements in a wide variety of styles including jazz, blues, pop, folk, and gospel. Soul Sessions is an exploration of some of Nina’s most popular works through Apphia Campbell’s brilliant cabaret. Campbell began her career Off-Broadway before moving to China to perform in jazz and pop shows at various venues. Black Is the Color Of My Voice, the magnum opus of her career, received highly positive reviews when it premiered in Shanghai, after which it was performed across the UK for filled theatres. The show has now arrived at London’s Trafalgar Studio, and is certain to be one of the best performances of its kind this season.
Soul Sessions comprises of a great selection of performances from Campbell’s hit musical ‘Black Is the Color Of My Voice’. A passionate tribute to the iconic Nina Simone, it is performed in cabaret style.
