A stunning fusion of traditional South African music and dance with western influences, INALA is a sensational show for audiences of all ages. Following sellout runs at Sadler Wells and the Edinburgh Playhouse, the Grammy Award-nominated show makes its much-awaited West End debut at The Peacock Theatre.
Why Watch INALA
An exotic experience, INALA combines exhilarating contemporary South African music with western influences. The ballet celebrates almost 25 years of democracy in South Africa. The choreography is by Mark Baldwin, one of the leading contemporary dance experts in the world. He is a multiple award-winning artist, including the Oliver Award, Time Out Award for Dance, and TMA Theatre Award, in addition to having received an OBE from Queen Elizabeth for Services to Dance. The choreography is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the performance and wonderfully complements the African rhythms and beats. Produced by the Sisters Grimm in collaboration with Mark Baldwin, INALA is a testament to their ability and prowess.
INALA was first showcased at the 2014 Edinburgh International Festival Opening. It sold out one of the largest theatres in all of Europe, the Edinburgh Playhouse for three nights in a row, to an ecstatic audience. The nine-venue MBM regional tour of the UK was a critical success, and the show received a standing ovation after every performance.
Featuring vocals from the Grammy-winning Soweto Gospel Choir, legendary award-winning choral legends and former and current dancers from Rambert and the Royal Ballet, INALA is a show for the ages. In a performance that combines the beauty of African beats and rhythm along with a dance that is eerily western, INALA is sure to evoke a deeper feeling amongst every member of the audience. They deliver what can only be described as an intertwining marriage of cultures on the live stage, a powerful dance with rhythms that echo the Zulu tradition, to get audiences up to their feet.
The mix of intricate beats with the spirited harmonies of traditional South African music makes for an unforgettable experience. The unison of contemporary and classical dance with Zulu traditions is something that must be witnessed in person to appreciate.
