Pinter 5: The Room/Victoria Station/Family Voices

From the mind of Harold Pinter, the genius behind Betrayal and The Lover, comes this excellent collection of plays that includes The Room, Victoria Station and Family Voices, only at the Harold Pinter Theater this season.

Why Watch Pinter 5: The Room/Victoria Station/Family Voices

‘Tis the season for Pinter at the Pinter! This triple bill features The Room, Victoria Station and Family Voices, with a stellar cast that includes Sherlock’s very own Rupert Graves, Jane Horrocks, Emma Naomi and Nicholas Woodeson. Directed by Harold Pinter’s friend and collaborator, Patrick Marber, all three plays feature characteristic Pinteresque dialogue and subtle, ambiguous characterisation.

The Story

The Room is the story of Rose and Bert, a married couple who are seemingly enjoying their breakfast. Their day is peppered with visits from their landlord, a young married couple and even a blind man. The play’s themes address an increasingly topical and familiar xenophobia that’s characteristically English.

Victoria Station is a hilarious short play that features radio dialogue between the train’s dispatcher and a driver, who has stopped and is awaiting instructions over the radio. Beginning on a comical note, the play slowly becomes more ominous and ends in an unexpected way.

Told through a series of letters between a mother and son in the form of monologues, Family Voices addresses the difficulties in communication and family dysfunction that’s relatable to us all.
