Watch Richard Twyman’s excellent version of Shakespeare’s famous Othello that showcases how life can be ripped apart by prejudice. The play and its strikingly relatable message remain relevant to this day.

Why Watch Othello

This is a production by Oxford Playhouse, English Touring Theatre, and Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory, making it one of the best plays out there. Othello has been on tour and has been showered with critical acclaim for all its performances across the world. It has done especially well on its London-run. This rendition of the Shakespearean classic is the brainchild of Richard Twyman, a top-notch producer. The English Touring theatre is also the winner of the UK Theatre Award. The production stars the immensely talented Katy Stephens, who is certain to take your breath away with her masterful performance.

The Story

One of Shakespeare’s most contemporary plays, Othello portrays how a life can be torn to shreds as a result of prejudice. The tale is set in Venice and revolves around Othello, a Muslim general. He is taken into service by a western colonial power to lead the charge against the looming Turkish invasion. With a society that is constantly divided by fear and discrimination, Othello finds his life falling apart. Manipulated by the evil Iago who hopes to gain the affection of Othello’s wife after his downfall, Othello tragically turns on all that he once held dear.
