Explore the funny aspects of typical Jamaican family rituals in this comical masterpiece woven together by the talented Natasha Gordon. After a smash-hit sell-out at the National Theatre, the show is set to feature at the West End this December.

Why Watch The Phantom of the Opera

Nine Night is a unique tale accompanied by an excellent crew of performers and a flamboyant and nostalgia-inducing 70s-style set. Perhaps the most striking part of the entire performance is the sheer attention to detail. Innumerable family portraits, religious symbols, plants made of plastic, and a wide array of other props that emphasize the setting. Tragic and comical themes are interlaced beautifully to create this magical play that, at its very core, simply deals with an ordinary family in the Caribbean with ordinary problems.

The Story

Gloria’s children and grandchildren begin the iconic Jamaican ‘nine night’ ceremony after Gloria’s death. With tensions mounting in the family, it is hard for everyone to last nine days without any conflict. The endless stream of mourners enjoy nine bittersweet nights of drinking, laughter, and storytelling. A masterful work of art that manages to tell an extraordinary story centered solely around the ordinary lives and problems of a Caribbean family, Nine Night is absolutely worth a watch this season at the West End.
