Show tickets on your phone
1 hr 30 mins

Experience the fear, anxiety, impatience, and frustration of two parents as they wait in a Florida police station in the middle of the night for information about their missing son, Jamal. The play adeptly deals with several social and familial issues in a typical American setting.

Why Watch American Son

American Son stars the wonderful Kerry Washington (Scandal). She returns to the big stage with Steven Pasquale (American Crime Story, Junk). The play also stars Eugene Lee (Gem of the Ocean), along with Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl). American Son tells a gripping story about America as a nation, and addresses social issues by touching upon how people manage family relationships, loss, love, and identity. This spectacular play is directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun and Fences). American Son also marks the debut of playwright Christopher Demos-Brown on Broadway.

The Story

American Son is a play about a traffic stop in the dead of night and an incident that takes place in this desolate location. It begins with Scott and his wife Kendra waiting in a police station in Miami. Their patience is dwindling as officers try and find their missing 18-year-old son, Jamal. The only thing the rookie police officer can tell them is that their son’s car had been logged in their records of the traffic stop. The details, however, are painfully scarce.
The play is directed in such a way that the actual incident and its consequences are mostly handled off stage. American Son deals with several social issues and stigmas. It is a brilliant watch, filled with tension and gripping scenes.
