Harvey Fierstein’s masterpiece, Torch Song, is a critically acclaimed show. The show stars Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie from ‘Ugly Betty’. It also stars the dynamic Tony Award winning Mercedes Ruehl of ‘The Fisher King’ fame. Torch Song is directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman, who has worked on ‘The Laramie Project’ and ‘I Am My Own Wife’. Torch Song is a hilarious play that touches upon the family issues everybody faces. It brings out very real emotions and showcases the tensions and problems that exist within a normal family.

The Story

Torch Song is a lovely family drama that is full of hilarious moments. It follows the story of a homosexual man, Arnold, who has very simple desires. He is on a quest to find happiness in the city of New York, and he wants a partner who can share in that happiness. However, when his overbearing mother visits, he realises that there is probably something more he deserves- a little more respect from society and his disapproving family. Arnold’s story is a very humane one that anybody can relate to. Watch him take on this entertaining journey that revolves around the families we are given, the families we pick, and all the struggle we go through to unite them.
