The Lover / The Collection

Watch this exquisite and delightful set of one-act plays by the eminent Harold Pinter. Although The Lover and The Collection are not Pinter’s most famous classics, the two dramas will serve as a deeper exploration of the writer’s works, and as the perfect introduction to the playwright’s style to people who have not watched one of Pinter’s plays before.

Why Watch The Lover / The Collection

Double bills of Harold Pinter plays always tend to be rewarding experiences at the the theatre. The legendary British playwright, screenwriter, director, author, and actor won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005. He has contributed vastly to the field of drama in Britain. In fact, the theatre in which these shows are featured is named after Pinter himself. As in many of Pinter’s works, the male characters find it incredibly difficult to understand women. On the other hand, women seem to be more pragmatic and adaptable. Watching these two shows is an excellent way to spend an evening in London!

The Story

‘The Lover’ follows the story of a couple leading a somewhat solitary life in what seems to be a very random place. Although they are financially stable, there are very clear indications of sexual tension between the couple. Sarah, Richard’s wife, seems to have the strangest of fantasies. Richard’s insecurities start becoming increasingly evident as the play progresses. ‘The Collection’ explores homosexual relationships and bisexuality. A fashion designer named Bill is seen living with his partner, Harry, who is older than him. When Bill receives a phone call from a suspicious man named Jimmy at 4 AM, the situation at home starts becoming more tense. Bill is accused of sleeping with Jimmy’s wife, Stella. How will Bill defend himself? Will Stella’s denial of the event mean anything?
