Killer Joe is a comic thriller by Tony Award-winner Tracy Letts. It stars Orlando Bloom as a cop who has a secret job as a contract killer. When hired by The Smiths to murder the family matriarch for insurance money, Joe encounters their young daughter, and things start going awry.

Why Watch Killer Joe

Killer Joe is a gripping thriller, with a touch of humour sprinkled over it. It stars the world-famous actor, Orlando Bloom, who is well-known for his roles in The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Hobbit. Directed by Simon Evans, Killer Joe is a reflection of some of the deepest aspects of human nature; a conflict that blurs the lines between morality and a will to live. The protagonist, Killer Joe, embodies this conflict through his character. He seems to be well-mannered and scarily confident, although he works as a hitman for hire and is a ruthless cop. A scathing attack on pop culture that messes with the public’s understanding of the world around them, Killer Joe is as much a comical thriller as it is an exploration of deeply philosophical concepts.

The Story

Killer Joe is a thrilling and somewhat comical tale of Joe Cooper, a police detective, who also happens to be a part-time contract killer. Joe is hired by Chris Smith and his father, Ansel, to eliminate Chris’ mother. Chris is a drug dealer and desperately wants his mother’s insurance money to pay off the bloodthirsty mob that is after him. Set in present day West Dallas, Texas, the story has its fair share of thrills and gut-wrenching moments. The villainous father-son duo soon realise that Joe Cooper does not work without a massive down payment; money that they simply do not have. Chris decides that his innocent sister, Dottie, would be the ideal down payment until they receive his mother’s insurance money.

When Joe Cooper finally comes face-to-face with the innocent daughter in the family, everything begins to go out of control. Although the play will sometimes make you uneasy with its shocking depiction of a hired killer and a troubled family, this is an excellent performance that you cannot afford to miss!

Please note: The show contains nudity, loud gunshots, flashing lights, haze, and smoking onstage.
