Why You Shouldn’t Miss This
Claude Monet first saw Giverny from the window of a moving train that was passing through the village. The dreamy atmosphere of the village and the natural splendour surrounding the place made it the perfect location for Claude Monet’s exploration of Impressionist art. By 1890, Monet had the resources to move to his dream home and work on what soon became some of the Impressionist era’s most iconic paintings.
Claude Monet’s garden has always been famous for its diverse range of flowers, creepers, and aquatic plants, many of which are exotic Eastern species. He also maintained large, colourful flower beds consisting of tulips, peonies, irises, and daffodils. The water garden is filled with water lilies and weeping willows. A charming traditional Japanese bridge extends between two ends of the water garden.
The pink-plastered house nestled in this gorgeous natural paradise is just as intriguing as the garden. Claude Monet lived here for 43 years, painting various parts of the enormous garden that he painstakingly maintained, until his death in 1926.
This half-day guided tour of Giverny and the sites of its rich artistic heritage is one of a kind. You will set off from Paris in a comfortable bus in the morning. Bask in the lush landscape of the French countryside as you enter the beautiful village of Giverny in Normandy.
This tour is the ultimate treat for any art or gardening enthusiasts. Claude Monet was just as passionate about tending to his fruit tree orchards and flower gardens as he was about painting. Wander Monet’s sprawling garden and enjoy the heady fragrance and vast, colourful flower beds all around.
You will also get an opportunity to explore a perfectly reconstructed version of Monet’s pink-plastered house. Visit the blue reading room and the painter’s studio, where he painted several masterpieces in the final decade of the 19th century. The original furniture of Monet’s old residence continues to be on display in the house. The yellow dining room and the semi-modern blue and white Rouen-tiled kitchen with its earthenware dishes have been rebuilt to thoroughly resemble the original rooms that Claude Monet inhabited. Marvel at the collection of Japanese prints in the dining area.
After a tour of the house, you can visit the local bookshop that is located in the building that once served as Monet’s studio. This is where he painted the famous 'Water Lilies'. The shop spans more than 3200 square feet and houses an impressive variety of Claude Monet-themed books, tableware, flower seeds, posters, and postcards.
