Why Watch The Glenn Miller Story
Relive the story of the legendary Glenn Miller, and his rise to become one of the most famous icons of his time, until his untimely death. Choreographed by Olivier Award winner Bill Deamer, the show has some glorious scenes that are guaranteed to make the audience feel like they are in the 40s swing era. The legendary Tommy Steele, who idolised Glenn Miller from his early teenage years, makes a return to London Coliseum, 60 years after he starred in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. The musical celebration is the perfect salute to his childhood idol and hero and features some of Miller’s greatest hits.
The story of how Glenn Miller put together his band, and their rise to become one of the best-known faces in the 1930s and 1940s forms a significant part of the musical. His rise to become the best selling artist from 1939 to 1943 is inspiring, and has been wonderfully narrated by Steele. Also covered is Miller’s marriage to his college sweetheart, Helen Burger, also an incredible artist in her own right. Finally, the show also includes his untimely death in 1944, when he was travelling to France, and his plane disappeared due to extreme weather conditions over the English Channel. The show is less about the story of Glenn Miller than a compilation of Miller’s greatest hits, along with some eye-catching dances and routines. The highlight of the show is Tommy Steele in the avatar of Miller. The show ends with a truncated Glenn Miller concert that is sure to make you want to waltz along. A fitting homage to one of the greatest American artists of all time, The Glenn Miller Story delivers a stunning show .
