Head Over Heels
Experience the wonder of a quintessentially comical theatrical piece that is set in the Elizabethan-era. With a star-studded cast including Andrew Durand, Taylor Iman Jones and Bonnie Milligan, Head Over Heels is a musical masterpiece that is sure to appeal to anyone who steps into the Hudson Theatre.
Why Watch Head Over Heels
Head Over Heels is based on a 16th-century piece of prose by Sir Philip Sidney. The adaptation first saw the lights of a modern stage at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Since then, the show has seen significant improvements in various aspects like the music and creative direction. Head Over Heels has assembled not only an amazing set of actors but also a highly talented ensemble cast. Sharon Catherine Brown, who shot to fame with her performance as Effie in the Broadway musical hit Dreamgirls, has performed exquisitely in this show as well. The creative team of Head Over Heels is led by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer. The music blends smoothly with the visuals, creating an atmosphere that complements the posh and punk undertones of the musical.
The score is supervised and arranged by the legendary Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and artist, Tom Kitt. The choreography, puppet design, and costume design effectively pull off an excellent display of a classic Go-Go style pop-rock musical, making Head Over Heels a must-watch for fans of comedies and musicals alike.
Love is never confined to a single way of expressing it. There is no show that embodies this philosophy better than Head Over Heels. The musical follows the story of a queer, gender-fluid royal family that is burdened with the task of averting imminent doom as prophesied by an oracle. It is now entirely up to the family to work together and keep their kingdom safe. The performance is filled with sweet, over-the-top comedy that never feels out of place in the show, however. Watch as the members of the royal family rediscover themselves and experience a profound sexual awakening. The confluence of 80’s semi-pop music and 17th-century England makes for an experience that is just out of this world and ridiculous beyond measure, yet strangely entertaining at the same time. Head Over Heels combines smart pacing and an incredible cast to create what can only be described as hilariously magical.
