John Lithgow: Stories by Heart
Watch two-time Tony winner John Lithgow return to Broadway with John Lithgow: Stories By Heart in an intimate setting this winter! Having spent a decade in the making, this simple play is one that is uplifting and illuminating.
Why Watch John Lithgow: Stories By Heart
John Lithgow’s solo play is an intimate evening that has spent years in the making. Tracing his life as a storyteller and actor, Lithgow entwines characters and short stories by Ring Lardner and P. G. Wodehouse into his narrative, making for an evening full of heart and humour.
With stories about his grandmother Ida's enchanting storytelling which riveted 7-year-old John, to stories about his actor-director-producer father. When his 80-year-old father underwent a serious operation, John moved back to take care of him. As his father kept losing his will to live, John helped him find it - by reading to him the same stories Arthur read him when he was a child. A tribute to his parents and his grandmother, the actor interweaves his familial memories with timeless tales.

"...to begin with, give Mr. Lithgow a sound effects award. And then give him one for spiritual effects, because “Stories by Heart” is delightful: illuminating the stories, uplifting us."
– The New York Times
"In the delightful "John Lithgow: Stories by Heart," an actor known for great intelligence and range devotes two hours on a Broadway stage to advancing that reputation. Enacting with consummate skill and physical grace a pair of short stories by Ring Lardner and P.G. Wodehouse, Lithgow accomplishes the mission in handy fashion."
