    The Story

To put it in simple words, Nutcracker Rouge is a version of Tchaikovsky that Tchaikovsky might have just loved if he were visiting Manhattan in the early 21st century. Modern, erotic, and full of verve, this is one reimagining of a classic you don’t want to miss.

    Critics Reviews

“The show looks at times like an adults-only Cirque du Soleil extravaganza, with trapeze acts and other athletic displays. Early on, Courtney Giannone delivers a gravity-defying routine using a big hoop with showstopping panache. The cast is full of classically trained dancers, and when he turns them loose, the result can be dazzling.”

    – The New York Times

“McCormick, with dance captain Allison Ulrich, creates a scrumptious mélange of graceful and provocative dance numbers, with moves inspired by the likes of Balanchine and Fosse. Zane Pihlstrom’s confectionary costumes — from licorice-like leather that hides very little, to bouncy cotton-candy gowns — all look good enough to lick.”

We booked out tickets via the website for this musical. The new Nutcracker Rouge has a unique cabaret-style, nightclub atmosphere to it. It turned out to be surprisingly fun!

A twist to the older verion, with an array of incredible talent, acrobatics and a baroque style perspective to an otherwise familiar story we've grown up watching.

Burlesque aside, The Nutcracker Rouge is still a performance full of music, dance and glitter that recreates theatrical magic like never before. Absolutely enchanting, RUN, don't walk to see it!

While I did have an idea of how kinky the show gets, it was shockingly raunchy and violent during certain parts and it got us a little uncomfortable. Otherwise a fresh, pop-colored performance that was presented with grace.

Much to our surprise, there was not a single boring moment during The Nutcracker Rouge. The stage was full of elegant, talented people who dance exquisitely. Keep in mind the show is not suitable for children at all!
