The Band's Visit
After a sold-out run Off-Broadway, the hit musical makes its debut on Broadway! Hailed as the show you should see if “you're looking for signs of new and exciting life in the contemporary American musical" - The Band’s Visit promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience.
Why Watch The Band’s Visit
The Band’s Visit is based on the multi-award winning film by the same name. Featuring Tony Nominee David Yazbek and directed by David Cromer, the production has won several awards, including Best Musical at the Outer Critics Circle Awards and the NY Drama Critics’ Circle Award. A musical set in the deserts of the Middle East, the story beautifully explores music, its perception, and the human connections we have with it.
The Egyptian Alexandria Ceremonial Police Band has just arrived in Israel to perform at the inauguration of the local cultural center. However, a mix-up at the border leaves them stranded with no bus or hotel in sight. The travelers are left with no choice but to seek help from the locals. What ensues is a wonderful, memorable time, that forever intertwines their lives in unexpected ways. While the band initially views their predicament as an unfortunate situation, they quickly realize their mishap was, indeed, a blessing in disguise.

“The Band’s Visit is gentle, soulful, tuneful and the best musical on Broadway. ‘Beautiful’ is a word we bandy about in the daily pursuit of adjectives to describe the things we love. But even in an entertainment world overrun with superlatives, this is the one you’re compelled to use to describe The Band’s Visit.”
– The Washington Post
“The Band’s Visit is a ravishing musical that whispers with romance. With songs by David Yazbek and a script by Itamar Moses, this Broadway rarity is seldom found these days. An honest-to-God musical for grown-ups, it is not a work to be punctuated with rowdy cheers and foot-stomping ovations, despite the uncanny virtuosity of Mr. Yazbek’s benchmark score.”
– The New York Times

It was pretty good, I was not in ecstasy, the music was the best part, and I was under the impression Tony Shaloub was still in it. Nevertheless, a very nice experience.
Definitely the show of the season! Don't go on expecting a show that brings forth magical developments, but The Band's Visit is definitely worth the hype. The script is penned masterfully, not something we see everyday.
My friends and I booked tickets for The Band's Visit after reading numerous positive reviews. What we absolutely loved the most about this musical was the fact that it brings together cultures in the form of both script and music. No surprise to see it so well received in Broadway currently!
