The Concert
The hour-long performance by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra will focus on 2 main compositions.
Saul and David by J.Wagenaar
Wagenaar, an honorary Doctorate of Music from Utrecht University, was born in 1862. He composed Saul and David, a symphonic poem, in 1906. Based on the Biblical story, the work synergises the elements of the story with a sound of its own.
Symphony to ‘Katerina Ismailova’ by Shostakovich/Basner
Extracted from Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, the symphony is written as an expressionist form of music. In 1962, the show was renamed to ‘Katerina Izmailova’ and has been a popular performance piece since.
