    Musician’s Bio - Mischa Maisky

Mischa Maisky is a living legend. Debuting at 17, after which he was tutored by Mstislav Rostropovich - a legendary virtuoso. Born in 1948, by 1972 Maisky had been arrested, jailed, placed in a work camp along. Aged 24, he arrived in Israel - ready to dazzle the world with his cello.

Over his 50 year career, Maisky has won 5 Record Academy Prizes in Tokyo, 3 Echo Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, a Grand Prix du Disque in Paris, Diapason d’Or and all coveted Grammy nominations. Despite his prolific achievements, Maisky remains a down-to-Earth, humble human; completely dissipating into the music he plays. Today Maisky is a soloist at the Musikkollegium Winterthur.

    The Concert

The concert will feature the Musikkollegium Winterthur exhibit their musical prowess. The concert will feature two main pieces:

    Pastoral by Beethoven

Written by Beethoven over the course of 6 years, the work is described as ‘more the expression of feeling than painting’ by Beethoven himself. This is his 6th Symphony and draws inspiration from his love of nature. A point highlighted by the name. The song has 5 movements, covering the horizon of rural landscape and nature.

Cello Concerto No. 1 by Saint-Saëns

Cello Concerto No. 1 was written for Auguste Tolbecque - a distinguished musician. This tribute is considered the greatest of all cello concertos. Saint-Saëns’s concerto is a single movement - comprised of three sections. Tightly structured, continuous and solid, the work shows a cyclic form in the orchestral work.
