  • Join the excitement of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament held every November at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center. After meeting your English-speaking guide, you’ll head to your reserved seat—either Chair-seat B on the 3rd floor or Masu-seat C on the 2nd floor—and get ready to watch powerful rikishi (wrestlers) battle it out in the ring.

    Getting started

    Meeting point: Fukuoka Kokusai Center, near the Tenjin and Hakata districts.

    Meet your guide outside the venue, where they’ll give you a quick introduction to the tournament and what to expect before leading you to your seat. The arena’s central location makes it easy to access from major areas in Fukuoka.

    What to expect

    • Seasonal sumo highlight: Experience one of Japan’s six annual Grand Sumo tournaments, hosted exclusively in Kyushu each November.

    • Live match atmosphere: Watch professional sumo wrestlers face off in the ring, complete with ceremonial entrances and pre-match rituals.

    • Expert insights: Follow the matches with guidance from your English-speaking guide, who explains rankings, rules, and traditions as the bouts happen.

    • Reserved seating options: Choose between elevated Chair-seat B or closer Masu-seat C, both offering excellent views of the ring.

  • What to bring

    • Cash or a card to buy food and drinks at the concession stands inside the 1F.

    What’s not allowed

    • Large luggage or suitcases in the seating area. Store them beforehand

    • Changing seats. Spectators must remain in their assigned seats.

    • Talking on mobile phones. Keep your phone on silent during matches.

    • Obstructing views with banners or towels.

    • Throwing cushions as it may cause injury or disturbances.

    • Late arrivals. Guests who arrive after the meeting time will have their reservations canceled.

    Accessibility

    • Spectators in wheelchairs are not permitted at the venue.

    • Masu-seat C is shared box seating for up to four people. Accessibility may be limited due to seating style and location.

    • If you want to sit together as a group, make a request when booking. Staff will try to accommodate but it is not guaranteed.

    Additional information

    • Meeting point: Gofukumachi Station, Exit 2 (above ground). Please arrive 15 minutes before the tour starts.

    • Eating and drinking are allowed in the seating area.

    • Children up to three years old may attend but must sit on a parent or guardian’s lap.

    • Seat selection is not available. Specific seat numbers cannot be chosen.

    • Please be respectful of others during the matches to maintain the traditional atmosphere.

    • Your voucher will be emailed to you shortly.

    • Display the voucher on your mobile phone with a valid photo ID at the starting point.
