Directed by two-time Tony Award Winner, Jerry Mitchell, and backed by Cyndi Lauper’s excellent music, Kinky Boots has enthralled audiences across the globe. With its sassy characters, and captivating storyline, this West End production has been hailed as one of the best musicals in recent years.

Why Watch Kinky Boots

Kinky Boots was first showcased on stage in 2012 at Chicago. Since then, it has grown into one of the biggest musicals, winning an astonishing six Tony Awards. It captures the struggle of a man torn between his father’s legacy and his fiancée’s demands. With memorable tunes and characters, the choreography and direction will leave anyone utterly astounded. In the climax, Kinky Boots is able to effectively relay its message of perseverance and acceptance. These powerful qualities form the crux of the show, with the main cast doing a splendid job in portraying an array of emotions from the depths of anguish to the euphoria of success.

The Story

Charlie Price is heir to a shoe factory. Charlie, however, has no interest whatsoever in the shoe business, and on the insistence of his city-obsessed fiancée, decides to move to London to pursue a career in real estate. Fate, however, has other plans. With the death of his father, Charlie is forced to return and run the shoe business. On the lookout for someone to help him run the factory, Charlie comes across a drag queen named Lola and her entourage of drag dancers.Witnessing their performance at a nightclub, Charlie observes that the boots worn by the dancers are unsuitable to support the large frame of a man. On returning to his factory, he is forced to lay off workers due to depleting sales. When one of his employees tells him that they should move into a niche shoe-making business, an idea strikes Charlie’s mind. Why not create a women’s boot that is comfortable for men too?
Will Charlie’s endeavour prove to be successful? Will the long-term employees at his factory be receptive to this radical change?
Follow Charlie’s journey, as he trudges along the treacherous albeit fulfilling path to restore his father’s factory to its full glory.

Personally, I wasn't much impressed by the show. There are better Broadway shows that you can catch.
