With top-notch production design by BAFTA Award winner Fotini Dimou and direction by the accomplished Paul Schoolman, Persona is an enchanting exploration of the meaning of ‘reality’!

Why You Should Watch Persona

Alma has been tasked with caring for a stage actress, Elizabet Vogler, who has abruptly stopped communicating with everyone. After concluding that this sudden change in behavior can be remedied by a serene and somewhat solitary setting, Elizabet’s doctor sends her to a cottage by the sea with only Alma to keep her company. As they spend time in the cottage, Alma tells Elizabet about her past affairs and the gnawing guilt that has consumed her. As the nurse and the actress learn more about each other, the story descends into a chilling exploration of truth, manipulation, identity, and the idea of ‘reality’.

Directed by Paul Schoolman, Persona is a fabulous stage adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s Academy Award-nominated film. It was also ranked as the fifth-greatest film ever made in the ‘Sight & Sound’ poll of 1972. This theatrical production features Olivier Award-winning actress Alice Krige in the lead role of Alma. Nobuhle Mngcwengi joins her on stage in the role of Elizabet while Paul Schoolman serves as the narrator. The quartet is completed by William Close and his ethereal tunes on the Earth Harp.
