Why Watch Daughter
In an age where a new wave of feminism is taking over, Daughter brings to life a show that deals with many preconceived notions that are misogynistic in nature and highlights a man’s struggle to rid them as he raises a daughter. The show starts off with tidbits of stabs at the toxic masculinity that is prevalent in society, mocking it, turning it into a joke, but as the night rolls on the protagonist doesn’t slow down, asking the audience the question, at what point will the audience stop laughing?
Adam Lazarus as the father does a brilliant job of portraying a man that has to come to terms with the dangerous and toxic attitude he has towards women as he starts to find beauty in raising his own daughter. Directed by Ann Marie Kerr, Daughter is a brilliant production that aims to move audiences and open up dialogues on getting rid of misogyny, how to address toxic masculinity and other stigmas that plague society.
