Revel in a masterful and hilarious play about the unpredictability of life by Olivier and Tony Award-winning dramatist Brian Friel!
Why You Should Watch Afterplay
While Sonya and Andrey were growing up, they were made to believe that life was simply about marriage, children, and domestic stability. Their paths cross several decades later in a small Moscow cafe, and they find that fate has taken them on completely different avenues. Reflecting on who they were and who they have become, the two realize that they have lost sight of their true nature. As they reminisce and share their ideas, passions, and dreams, the possibility of a new future begins to emerge.
In this one-act-play, Brian Friel revives two of Checkhov’s most popular characters from two separate books: Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya. Widely regarded as one of the most influential English-language dramatists, Friel is often referred to as the ‘Irish Checkhov’. He has also won a New York Drama Critics Circle Award (1992) for Dancing at Lughnasa and an Evening Standard Award (1998) for Aristocrats. In this version of the play, the subtle humor and moving backstories of the characters are excellently brought out by director John Haider.
