Fiddler on the Roof
After wildly successful sold-out New York performances (Off-Broadway), Tony Award-winner Joel Grey’s exceptional revival of the legendary 1965 production of Fiddler on the Roof is heading to Australia!
Why You Should Watch Fiddler on the Roof
Set in an age when Jews across the world were routinely persecuted, Fiddler on the Roof follows the story of a poor Jewish milkman named Tevye and his family. Tevye lives in a small Russian village with his wife and five daughters, and although they are stricken by crippling poverty, they lead reasonably happy lives. For the Jewish community in Tevye’s village, the traditions and values of their forefathers are indisputable. Three of his daughters, however, choose to defy these traditions by choosing to get married without the permission of the village matchmaker. In a world that is radically changing its outlook on freedom and marriage, will Tevye turn away from his past and permit his daughters to marry the men they love?
Joseph Stein's original book 'Fiddler on the Roof' was inspired by the Yiddish stories of Sholem Aleichem. In 1965, the theatrical adaptation of the book became one of the most heartwarmingly-honest tales about love and family. This new Yiddish version of the classic was conceived by Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, singer, and director Joel Grey. With set design by Beowulf Boritt and musical staging by Staś Kmieć, this production has all the charm of the original classic, along with its own irresistible flavour.
