Is Skywalk safe? Absolutely! In fact, the Skywalk can support the weight of 71 fully loaded 747 airplane. To put this into perspective, that’s equivalent to more than eight hundred 200 lb. people. I recently booked a Grand Canyon sightseeing trip for myself (& elderly parents) with the Grand Canyon Tour Company, online and at short notice. I selected the 'Indian Country West Rim Air & Ground Tour with Skywalk' From the moment of our pick-up at the Mandalay Bay Hotel (12.45pm) until our return to the Las Vegas 'Strip' later that evening (c.8pm) , everything on our tour ran like clockwork. We were transported by mini-coach from Las Vegas to Boulder City - about 30 minutes drive away - and arrived at the regional airport in plenty of time for our scheduled 2pm departure. After a short safety briefing and basic outline of our trip by the staff, we boarded the small 9-seater airplane and took off, leaving at 2pm as per our schedule. We were transported from Boulder City to Grand Canyon West airfield using the 'Stars & Stripes' operators, and special boarding/disembarking assistance was given to my father, who struggles when walking. On the 30 minute flight from Boulder to Grand Canyon West, we passed over the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, with finally a spectacular descent over the Grand Canyon itself. After landing at GCW airfield, we were transported by luxury coach to each of the different Grand Canyon viewing points (Eagle Point, the Skywalk, Guano Point). We had more than enough stopping time at each of the various viewing points, and barely waited 5 minutes at any point for a coach to transport us to the next section of the tour. At 6.30pm, we were collected - on time - at the GCW airfield and returned back to Boulder City. Throughout the trip, our pilot (Daniel) and all of the other staff we met were courteous, friendly, helpful, and really made our entire tour, a truly memorable experience !
What we liked about this tour is how knowledgable the staff were, and friendly! We also got a lot of time in the Canyon so we were not rushed at all. The last thing you want it someone pushing you onto the bus telling you its time to go. The plane was clean and held 10 people and it was a very smooth ride. After seeing all the other operators and talking to other travellers, we knew that we had made the best choice.
We took Grand Canyon South Rim Bus Tour on 22/08/10. Fantastic from start to finish. Picked up on time from MGM. Had lite breakfast before getting on main coach. Tommy our driver seated all parties together. Tour went like clockwork. Tommy was most informative, plus backup video. Plenty off stops on route. Had 3 course buffet lunch which was really tasty and staff very friendly. Tommy excellent driver stopped and slowed down for photo shots. Grand Canyon was amazing!!!
