The Story

On the 4th of July, 1979, President Jimmy Carter canceled an energy policy speech that he was to deliver the next day. He emerged out of his retreat after nearly 10 days and gave a completely new speech, the Crisis of Confidence speech. It is now considered a landmark speech of its time, with people praising it for being farsighted, unprecedented, and insightful, although at its time it was considered infamous.

More than 40 years later, Cynthia Cooper, a college professor, is approached by a stranger to enquire about the Carter administration before the Crisis of Confidence speech. Cynthia will have to play the President to narrate the story from her role, and the stranger will have to take on the role of the professor herself.
