Watch a brilliantly written, distinctive, and unwaveringly honest portrayal of the new generation and the problems they face as a result of the rapidly changing social, economic, and environmental landscape. Starring two immensely popular performers, Claire Foy and Matt Smith from the hit Netflix series The Crown, this show is certain to be a fast-seller this winter!

Why Watch Lungs

Director Duncan Macmillan packs a heavy emotional punch in this spectacular presentation of the deep emotional turmoil of millennials who wrestle with their desires and their knowledge of how these desires could adversely contribute to rising sea levels and climate change. He uses an interesting palette of emotions and themes ranging from hope and betrayal to comedy and love.

The show also brings together Claire Foy and Matt Smith from The Crown fame. They played the lead roles as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip respectively in the series, making them two of the most sought after stars today. Claire Foy is a Primetime Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning performer who debuted in Trafalgar Studios’s 2013 Macbeth alongside Jame McAvoy. Besides winning critical acclaim and wild public popularity for her role in The Crown, Foy is also well-known for her role in the six-part series Wolf Hall and films such as The Girl in the Spider’s Web and First Man. Matt Smith is also a highly talented and famous actor owing to his role as the Doctor in the British television classic Doctor Who. Although there were ten other actors who played the role of the Doctor before him, Smith was the first to be nominated for a BAFTA. He has also won several accolades including Emmy and SAG award nominations for his part in The Crown. As a performer for the Royal National Theatre productions, Smith has also won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement for his performance in That Face.

With unrivalled direction by Duncan Macmillan, Lungs reunites these two outstanding artists in what is sure to be a well-rounded and deeply moving presentation at the Old Vic Theatre this winter.

The Story

With every passing day, the air quality worsens, the polar ice caps melt, and sea levels rise, threatening to irreparably damage the delicate natural harmony of Earth. With everything at the brink of change, nothing is certain for a young, educated, and thoughtful couple. How could they possibly bring a child into the world when they clearly know that the carbon footprint of such an act is equivalent to 10,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide? The question of whether it is selfish to have a baby deeply troubles the couple and thrusts them into an emotional dilemma.

A story that explores sexual politics, the ability to express and come to terms with desires, and the problems of marriage, Lungs will make you reflect on an entirely fresh environment-conscious outlook on life that is more of a necessity than ever before.
