Descend into the world of an 1860’s British taproom as you sing, dance, and gamble your way through the Swell Mob Tavern! This fully interactive experience also includes award-winning clowning, cabaret, and puppetry.

Why Watch The Swell Mob

The Swell Mob tavern is a unique exhibit started by Flabbergast Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe that will open at the West End this season. As an immersive show, participants are expected to dress up as the denizens that populated typical taprooms in 19th century Britain. Visitors can shape their own experiences by interacting with the other members of the tavern and following clues. Drinking spiced rum or gin from the large silver tankard as you dance to the sound of the accordion truly transports you to the Victorian Era. This wildly immersive presentation is well worth a trip to the Colab Factory this summer!

The Story

The Swell Mob is filled with cardsharps, counterfeit cranks, scaldrum dodges, tarot card readers, sandbaggers, and thieves of all sorts. You are free to roam around the tavern in your Victorian costume as you chug rum, gin, or whiskey from your tankard. Exploration and interaction is the key to discovering more about the tavern and its many mysteries. Your actions have an impact on the story, and you are a key element in everyone’s narrative; so, choose wisely when it comes to making or breaking deals with characters.

Impressing the cashier of The Swell Mob with your costume will earn you a special reward, so make sure you pick a great costume. The setting itself is top-notch, and the actors will never break character throughout the show. With innumerable people to talk to, clues to follow, and passages to explore, The Swell Mob is a show like no other!
