Witness the life of Arturo Toscanini, and his belief systems as you get an exclusive chance to delve into the mind of an artistic genius. Follow his audacious defiance of one of the most powerful leaders of the world during the mid-1900s, Benito Mussolini, and his vocal disdain of Fascism.

Why Watch Maestro

Maestro follows the story of Arturo Toscanini. Renowned for his musical prowess and perfectionism, he was one of the most sought after musicians in the world during the 19th and 20th centuries. Toscanini was also popular for his views on Fascism and the steps he took to elevate the condition and status of Jews during the Anti-Semitic times. Dramatizing something such as the art of music conducting is an uphill task. Ensemble for the Romantic Century, which is producing the acclaimed play is able to effectively capture the life of Toscanini. Jon Noble attempts to bring this mercurial character to life and has been praised for the charisma and allure with which Noble has portrayed Toscanini. The play focuses on the latter stages of his career, in the 1930s and 1940s, and his opposition to Hitler and Mussolini. The combination stellar theatre performances and music does justice to Arturo Toscanini’s legacy. At the end of the performance, you will realize that even amidst one of the darkest times in human history, the voice of an artist was heard.

The Story

Arturo Toscanini is one of the most celebrated composers of the 20th century. He is a man of the people and is unwavering in his beliefs regarding Fascism and its detrimental effects on society and countries. Toscanini was completely disillusioned with Fascist leader Mussolini and defied one of the most powerful people in the world several times. A musical genius, several of Toscanini’s personal letters, acts of rebellion and music form the crux of the show. His despotic attitude on stage although intimidating to the players, but also drove them to perform their very best on stage. His numerous extramarital affairs, political disdain and beliefs have been covered in detail.
