your experience

Overlooking the Sydney Harbor, stands on the Sydney Opera House. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is said to be “one of the indisputable masterpieces of human creativity, not only in the 20th century but in the history of humankind”. That said, a trip to Sydney is incomplete without a visit to the Sydney Opera House. Nobody will argue that the best way to experience the magic of this place is to watch an Opera performance under one of its brilliant sails. This season offers some of the world’s favorite operas from legendary composers. Typically, performances start at 07:30 PM and run for 2-3 hours, with intervals for you to enjoy a drink at the bar and enjoy the harbor view. All performances have full English subtitles.

Aida

Aida is a story of love and betrayal against the backdrop of war. Coupled with Verdi's monumental music, this is an enduring crowd favorite. There will be ten towering digital screens that create ever-varying floor-to-ceiling set pieces. The lavish costumes and props reflect the splendor of Egypt at the height of its power. This is a musical feast like no other.

Attila

The King of the Huns meets his match. After a victory, Attila meets Odabella, one of the prisoners of war. He grants her a boon and she asks for his sword with the intention of avenging her father’s death at Attila’s hand. As he opens his heart to his prisoner Odabella, Attila reveals his weakness. In the prelude, a mournful cello draws you into the precariousness and turmoil of war. Verdi’s score is full of darkness and life, perfect for adding emotion.

Otello

Verdi's Otello is the story of the happy couple, Otello, the Venetian general, and Desdemona, as they are muddled through an evil plot crafted by Iago. Iago is the slighted ensign of Otello, who has been passed over for a promotion. From the almighty storm to Desdemona’s beautiful Willow Song, the music adds to the tension and oncoming tragedy. Harry Kupfer’s timeless production takes you through all the action on a monumental staircase that dominates the stage.

The Tales of Hoffmann

The eccentric inventor, Spalanzani has created a wind-up doll In his workshop in Paris and named her Olympia. Hoffmann, who thinks the girl is Spalanzani's daughter, has fallen in love with her. Coppélius, Spalanzani's former partner sells Hoffmann a pair of magic glasses, through which he alone can see Olympia as human. This is The Tales of Hoffmann: Offenbach’s last and greatest work.
