Nouvelle Vague

Translating to 'New Wave’ in French, Nouvelle Vague features a large rotating cast of primarily female singers. The first album featured female vocalists who had never heard the songs that they were about to record. What started as a project in Bossa Nova turned into a full-fledged album, and the success that followed motivated the group to Saturday together as a band. Bossa Nova is a Brazilian music style that was quite popular in the 50s and 60s. A lyrical blend of both samba and jazz, with its core rhythm based on samba. A blues influence can also be felt with this spirited musical style. Led by musicians Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux, Nouvelle Vague has featured a large list of female vocalists. Most of them have also had wildly successful solo careers, a testament to Collin’s ability to scout out the very best talent.

The Show

You will listen to the song that started it all, “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” Originally created by the English rock band, Joy Division, the song is sung in a bossa nova version. Another early song is Somebody to Love, by the legendary band Queen. Watching Nouvelle Vague give their own unique spin on these well-known hits is a wonderful experience, and is a must see.
