Your Experience
Your Experience
In honor of the 250th anniversary of the death of François Boucher (1703-1770), Cognacq-Jay Museum offers an in-depth examination of love and desire. The 18th-century was defined as a period of pleasure and libertinage. During this century, philosophers, men of letters, and artists invested in loving passions and carnal desires. François Boucher, the first painter of King Louis XV, in particular, was an expert when it came to delicate sensual pastorals and erotic compositions. The exhibition showcases the boldest of his works alongside works by his peers: Jean-Baptiste Greuze, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and Antoine Watteau.
Embark on a journey that retraces the history of desire, from first emotions to the satisfaction of passions. The exhibition brings together sixty paintings and drawings, gathered from prestigious international collections, both public and private, some presented to the public for the very first time.
